Carrie Soto Is Back: Preview

Read the review here -> Carrie Soto Is Back: Make Way For The Champion!

I don’t think I have waited more eagerly for any other book! Carrie Soto Is Back is the most anticipated book of 2022 for me. And, I don’t know why but I get a strong feeling that this is a blockbuster of a book that Taylor Jenkins Reid has at hand after the roaring success of Malibu Rising last year. So much so, that I couldn’t hold myself from putting together my expectations of this tempting read.

To give a brief backdrop, Carrie Soto Is Back picks up this character introduced to us in Malibu Rising, and gives her the main stage here. Carrie Sotto, a legendary tennis player, was the love interest of Brandon Randall for whom he ditches his wife Nina. Brandon himself a Grand Slam champion, moves in with Carrie. But soon starts missing Nina’s tenderness and starts doubting if Soto is even a good person at all? He returns to his wife expecting forgiveness, is shredded to pieces by Carrie Soto who showers her wrath over him in front of Nina, and he is left abandoned both ends hah! That was some scene!

For those interested, I am posting below a summary of the plot for Carrie Soto Is Back. Others who may want to maintain an unknown factor may skip the same.

Plot Summary. Click To Read!
By the time Carrie retires from tennis, she is the best player the world has ever seen. She has shattered every record and claimed twenty Slam titles. And if you ask her, she is entitled to every one. She sacrificed nearly everything to become the best, with her father as her coach.

But six years after her retirement, Carrie finds herself sitting in the stands of the 1994 US Open, watching her record be taken from her by a brutal, stunning, British player named Nicki Chan.

At thirty-seven years old, Carrie makes the monumental decision to come out of retirement and be coached by her father for one last year in an attempt to reclaim her record. Even if the sports media says that they never liked the ‘Battle-Axe’ anyway. Even if her body doesn’t move as fast as it did. And even if it means swallowing her pride to train with a man she once almost opened her heart to: Bowe Huntley. Like her, he has something to prove before he gives up the game forever.

In spite of it all: Carrie Soto is back, for one epic final season. In this riveting and unforgettable novel, Taylor Jenkins Reid tells a story about the cost of greatness and a legendary athlete attempting a comeback.

My Expectations

I think the plot of this book is in itself so compelling, it has all the makings of a fine read! Being a huge tennis fan probably is what attracts me most to this book. Just the sheer idea of a comeback from a legendary tennis star makes it a much desired thought that you wish to dwell upon.

There are two things in sport that are capable of creating a euphoria that engulfs one and all. First, the rise of a young sensation – taking the world by storm, probably initiating the downfall of some established names in the path. And two, the comeback of a much loved star for a last hurrah! A fitting example of the first is John Grisham’s Sooley which beautifully captures the sensational rise of a new star in the world of sport. And Jenkins Reid’s book here brings to us the second scenario.

We have all seen many of our loved stars in their twilight years. And your heart just goes out to them, wishing they continue on – maybe just for old time sake. And similar is the sentiment when a retired star attempts a comeback. Someone who has been there, seen all – nothing left to achieve, but still lifts that racquet once again for a final showdown.

What I Want In This Book

I want it to have lots of tennis to start with. Real sounding matches with the edge-of-your-seat excitement. I wish it to be a successful comeback – a fairy tale so to say! I wish Carrie Soto gets back her record and leaves the tennis world stunned with her brilliance!

In short, I want Carrie Soto Is Back to focus more on the comeback and the life of a tennis star rather than her love interests, Brandon Randall and not the least a guest appearance by Mick Riva!

But whatever it be, I am sure this is a stunner of a book. I already preordered mine here.

  1. Same pinch! Waterstones even has signed copies. They even ship to India but I am really not sure they won’t get stuck somewhere! And then I am running about trying to get them cleared and picked up.
