The Mystery Guest (Nita Prose) 🥇🔰

Winner:
Book Of The Year 2023;
Best Character 2023 (Molly Gray);
All Time Best Reads

As the reading year draws to an end, here comes Molly once again, and easily climbs straight up to the best reads of 2023. Nita Prose successfully accomplishes the hardest thing to achieve – following up a runaway hit with an equally enthralling sequel. And not only does this second book maintain the charm & appeal of the first, but it also far outdoes it.

The book begins with an acclaimed mystery author J.D. Grimthorpe dropping dead just ahead of a much-publicized announcement he was due to make in the Regency Grand’s tearoom. And as the book itself keeps reminding you, …

Treasure Island: 139th Anniversary 🔰

Treasure Island | Robert Louis Stevenson | Timeless Classics

First Published: 14th November, 1883; Pros: Adventurous Plot, Legendary Characters

Today marks the 139th anniversary of this Timeless Classic by – the beyond compare author – Robert Louis Stevenson. First published on 14th November, 1883, Treasure Island manages to withstand the test of time – being one of the most loved books of all time as it continues to endear itself not just to kids, but readers of all ages. I thought the best way to honour this book on this occasion would be to give it a fresh read and celebrate it by sharing what makes it so special.

My Memories Of Treasure Island

Treasure Island was part of my school text in the 6th standard. Thus, it is technically the first novel I ever read – be it as part of curriculum. I still remember the blurred visuals of my class teacher reading this book out to …

Carrie Soto Is Back (Taylor Jenkins Reid) 🥇🔰

Carrie Soto Is Back | Book Review

Winner:
Book Of The Year 2022;
Best Character 2022 (Carrie Soto);
All Time Best Reads

What’s the feeling like when someone meets your expectations and betters them? Carrie Soto Is Back makes the hitherto great books I read this year seem outrageously dwarfed. For, this is the real thing. This is exemplary writing at it’s lethal best. This is what a Classic is all about. And TJR, you are a legend and no less. For, barely 10% into the book and it is hard to believe that Carrie Soto is not real. That this is fiction. What. A. Book. !!

The release of this book coincided with the start of the US Open 2022. And of course it now seems intentional as this is central to the theme of this amazing book. Taylor Jenkins Reid has hinted in her interviews of this book being modelled around Serena Williams …

A Tidy Ending (Joanna Cannon)🥈🔰

A Tidy Ending | Book Review

Winner:
2nd Ranked Book 2022;
Best Negative Character 2022 (Linda Hammett)

As the cliché goes, Never judge a book by it’s cover. The cover was precisely what drew me into A Tidy Ending to start with. A bright yellow, perfectly upholding the summer feel and ushering in a brightness, positivity and warmth. A little birdie perching on the daffodil frame, inviting you to come and read this one. If there ever was an award for the best designed cover, this book makes a vehement claim.

At times, some long accepted adages stand to be challenged. For, A Tidy Ending with it’s beautiful cover is even more beautiful with what lies inside it. Joanna Cannon has a winner at hand without question, one of the best books of 2022.

The story is centered around Linda, who works at a charity shop and has just moved in to a new …

The Maid (Nita Prose)🔰

The Maid | Book Review

Winner: All Time Endearing Books

An out and out entertainer. That is how I would describe The Maid by debut author Nita Prose. One of the most anticipated books of 2022, The Maid does not disappoint on any account and emerges as an outright winner. It possibly is the best way to start your “reading year” with this enjoyable and easy read with elements of suspense, thrill, humor and above all, friendship.

Beautiful Characterization

“Molly The Maid”, a sure shot contender for the character of the year! Nita Prose does a swell job in weaving such a beautiful and unique character, so unlike any other I have read thus far. A character who takes things too literally, whose every action follows the rule meticulously. Molly does everything in the “right” manner. She comes across as irritatingly formal & cordial and cannot make small talk. For instance, she would …

The Village Shop For Lonely Hearts (Alison Sherlock) 🔰

The Village Shop For Lonely Hearts | Book Review

A feel good, heartwarming tale of the unexpected surprises of life, The Village Shop For Lonely Hearts is an adorable read. It is full of hope, love, friendship and inspiration. But most of all, it is endearing with it’s simplicity.

The first in the Riverside Lane Series of books by Alison Sherlock, this is the story of Amber Green, a window dresser by profession, who in order to fulfil her mother’s wish agrees reluctantly to visit her mom’s old time friend Cathy Kennedy in a small country side village Cranbridge – a beautiful, serene & quite setting for this calming story.

As life would have it, this supposedly short stay of hers brings all that her life had been missing – confidence, friends, appreciation, a sense of belonging, love & a place she could call ‘home’. This heart warming story revolves around a small old shop of the Kennedy’s ‘Cranbridge …
