The Book Of Cold Cases: My Covid Read!

The Book Of Cold Cases | My Covid Read

After two years of dodging and escaping, the corona virus finally caught me this week! And, while it was a time for some forced rest, I did manage to sneak in some bit of reading here n there! I was about a third into The Book Of Cold Cases when I contracted the virus. So, the majority of this book was read recovering!

As anyone would tell you, this probably is not the best book to read in a situation like mine. You probably would do good to have a feel good, heart warming and funny book as a companion. But to be honest, I quite enjoyed this!

A true crime blogger, Shea, finds herself personally and deeply involved in an unsolved Lady Killer case as she tries to investigate and uncover some lost facts. It turns out, she herself has been subject to trauma in her childhood. And that probably is another reason for her fascination and interest in this particular case. And as she continues her pursuit, her own life gets endangered, leaving her almost dead!

To start with, I was quite fascinated with this story. An amateur blogger who writes just as a hobby. And quite unwittingly becoming a part of the actual case as she researches facts for her blog. I enjoyed how the story eases into the crimes with Shea getting the opportunity of a rare interview with the prime accused.

“Which one are you today? Are you bitter, or are you sweet?
What followed seemed straight out from a children’s fantasy book with ghosts, a haunted house, taps turning, voices being heard and so on. Honestly, I read something like this after decades! This was an out-n-out ghost story from the fantasy world. Although it may not be believable, it was immensely enjoyable nevertheless. This is something that caters to that child within you seeking some thrill and exhilaration!

Simone does a wonderful job at narration of this story! A story of this genre needs to build that air of unease and anxiety. The author laces the story with some catch phrases that keep recurring at various points in the book. “Are you bitter, or are you sweet?” “You are not leaving. You are not talking.” Phrases like this lend the prefect sinister feel to the story, creating that sense of fear and danger.

The characters have been quite immaculately developed, especially those of Beth and Lily. Simone succeeds in creating that impact where you really wish to stay away from these, as far as possible!

Conclusion:

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed The Book Of Cold Cases. I quite also liked the ending. While the author breathes in fresh life, she leaves you with those two ghostly lights to let your imagination ticking. The ghostly feeling lives on!

What’s interesting is, that author has added some questions at the end of the book. It’s like questions you have in your text books at the end of each chapter? Like a revision and summarization of what you have learnt! So, for those of us who look to delve deep into it, there’s lots of food for thought! So, get you copy here if you feel intrigued to read!

  3. Lol. I felt this book provided a very unique flavor to my reading. Sometimes otherwise it tends to get too monotonous reading the same kind of books. This added some spice and excitement. But I do get how you feel 🙂
